Back from my blogging hiatus

Ok so I’m probably the worst blogger ever seeing as how my last post was over two months ago…whoops. I know most of you are probably at home on the edge of your seats excitedly waiting to hear what I’ve been up to, so without further ado: things of interest that I’ve done so far this summer:

At the end of May I went down to New Orleans on another relief trip. It was probably the best one that I’ve been on so far, because we really got a chance to interact with the community. It amazes me that almost three years after Katrina people down there are still struggling to put their lives back together. Everybody wants to tell their story, and it’s all I could do to sit there and listen without crying. On a lighter note the group was really awesome (minus the I’m-not-even-engaged yet bridezilla) and we had a blast in the French Quarter.

Last week a couple of Nets were in visiting the area. I went to the beach with Ariel, Christina, and Caryn on Saturday. It kind of sucked because there were red flags up and I left my towel at home, but the company was fun so I couldn’t really complain. The next day we all went to Tropical Smoothie and Brandon met up with us on his way back from OBX.

I’ve been reading a lot this summer.

Cosmo, People, Us Weekly --> essentials

Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austin --> good

Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini --> awesome

Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett --> freaking awesome

The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy--> wasn’t impressed

Unbowed by Wangari Maathia --> work in progress but looking good

I’m making this Peace Crops thing really happen. I submitted my application, got all my references in order, and I have an interview next Tuesday. I’m really excited because this is exactly what I want to do when I graduate but I’m also really nervous because it’s pretty competitive to get in and the interview is a really really really important part of the application process. So wish me luck next week!

I can’t really think of anything else that’s been going on this summer, so I guess this is all you get for now ;)
