Happy Holidays !

I just wanted to wish you all a Merry Christmas. It's Christmas eve and I'm currently sitting in the kitchen watching Mama Millman work her magic. We're having some family friends over tomorrow for dinner so she's been cleaning and cooking all day (ironically enough I've been avoiding the cooking and cleaning all day). I love this time of year, even if it is 60 degrees outside and my brothers are wearing flip flops! Oh well I guess I better get use to it, I don't think I'll be having a white Christmas for awhile.

I have two major papers due in the next two days and I decided it would be better to catch up on my blogging rather then study!

I realize that I haven't updated this thing in a long time so here's a quick look at what I've been doing for the past three months...

First I carved this kick-ass Obama pumpkin for Halloween. The elections were really exciting this year and I hope that I can find a way to go to the inauguration in January!

I dressed up as Rosie the Riveter for Halloween. The festivities were really fun but after a night like that I always feel a little stupid ;) Whatever it was only fitting that my last Halloween in college be epic in nature!

Some of the fifth floor girls got invited to Jessica's family's big chicken fry again this year. It was great we ate chicken, drank beer, went on a haunted hay ride, and we went four-wheeling. I rode with Jessica and I was pretty sure I was going to die a couple of times.

Went to my last Thursday night game doing the pre-game show in Lane stadium. It never gets old, that adrenaline rush you get from preforming to 66,000 screaming and yelling Hokie fans!

For thanksgiving the family went to the Outer Banks for our traditional OBX Beach Week. My favorite part of the week was the Oyster roast, nothing like doing rocky mountain cocktails with the ones you love ;)

Band parents day 2008. My parents stayed at my apartment for the weekend. Nothing like having to tell your dad he has to stay home while you go out on a Friday night.

We beat UVA AGAIN! That makes it a four year sweep for my college career. This year the win was made even sweeter because our victory kept them from going to a bowl game. HA HA HA

Last week we all got flown to Tampa for the ACC championship, and to everyone's surprise we actually won! The trip itself was really fun. I got to fly first class, and I got to room with my old roommate. Oh and also there may or may not have been some random celebratory shananagins ;)

Net ugly sweater, potluck, secrete Santa, cookie swap extravaganza 2008 was on Wednesday. I made chocolate, butterscotch chip cookies and wrote JMSP a poem and framed it for his secrete Santa gift. I think he liked it cause he decided to read it out loud to everyone. I'm going to miss these people so much next year!

Ok so now you're pretty much caught up now. I know it's not New Years yet but I'm making my resolution to keep up with this thing :) Hopefully I'll post again before the three month marker goes by!

spaghetti dinner with rank 13 equals AWESOMENESS !

Ok so it’s time for an update!

Well for starters I’m back in band and I will never take my seat in Lane Stadium for granted again. I’m a senior so I get to stand on the fence and I know it sounds funny but 5 feet really does make a difference. The first half of the game was awesome, but the second half really dragged. If you asked me, you don’t put your second string quarter back in at the start of the second half (last five minuets maybe but not with two quarters to go). I’m not a Glennon hater, but come on you can’t slack off and assume the win that early in the game.

In other news, last night Kevin, Lauren, and Stephanie had a gangsta party at their house. I had a great time even though I looked ridiculous. It didn’t really matter though because everyone there looked ridiculous.

This morning I woke up and discovered that I had made my first ever appearance on the Hokie Sports photo gallery. Even though it maybe the worst picture I've ever taken, I don't care. I'm going to relish it ! That's right I'm ready for my close up :)

A Shaky Start…

Well this week sucked a lot. On Thursday I found out the hard way that life’s not fair and even people you think you know can surprise you in a negative way. Over the course of 24 hours I got suspended from the Marching Virginians, stripped of my leadership position, forced to participate in an alcohol awareness seminar, and on top of that received a JR. Who would have guessed that I could make it through three years of college and then as I’m coming down the home stretch get slammed like this? As I’m sure you can all imagine this is not exactly how I saw my senior year playing out.

So after an entire day of wallowing, half a carton of ice-cream, and the inevitable sob sessions (each time I had to explain the situation to anyone); I have decided that what’s done is done and I’m moving forward. No one can tell me who I am and am not aloud to see, and I am not going into seclusion for a month, so I’m just going to have to make the best of it. I plan to start running during my newly acquired free time, and for the first time ever I’m going to a Hokie football game as a student (tailgating and all)!

Here’s to picking up the pieces, realizing this is not the end of the world, and moving on!

Back from my blogging hiatus

Ok so I’m probably the worst blogger ever seeing as how my last post was over two months ago…whoops. I know most of you are probably at home on the edge of your seats excitedly waiting to hear what I’ve been up to, so without further ado: things of interest that I’ve done so far this summer:

At the end of May I went down to New Orleans on another relief trip. It was probably the best one that I’ve been on so far, because we really got a chance to interact with the community. It amazes me that almost three years after Katrina people down there are still struggling to put their lives back together. Everybody wants to tell their story, and it’s all I could do to sit there and listen without crying. On a lighter note the group was really awesome (minus the I’m-not-even-engaged yet bridezilla) and we had a blast in the French Quarter.

Last week a couple of Nets were in visiting the area. I went to the beach with Ariel, Christina, and Caryn on Saturday. It kind of sucked because there were red flags up and I left my towel at home, but the company was fun so I couldn’t really complain. The next day we all went to Tropical Smoothie and Brandon met up with us on his way back from OBX.

I’ve been reading a lot this summer.

Cosmo, People, Us Weekly --> essentials

Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austin --> good

Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini --> awesome

Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett --> freaking awesome

The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy--> wasn’t impressed

Unbowed by Wangari Maathia --> work in progress but looking good

I’m making this Peace Crops thing really happen. I submitted my application, got all my references in order, and I have an interview next Tuesday. I’m really excited because this is exactly what I want to do when I graduate but I’m also really nervous because it’s pretty competitive to get in and the interview is a really really really important part of the application process. So wish me luck next week!

I can’t really think of anything else that’s been going on this summer, so I guess this is all you get for now ;)
